DIY Crochet Pockets: Photo Tutorial

I have this little black vest handed down from an old roommate. I really like it and can't wait for it to FINALLY be cold enough to wear it (Arkansas weather stinks sometimes, y'all). However, it doesn't have any pockets. For some reason, I like my vests to have pockets. Then I had an idea for a DIY project to share with you all, and here we are!

You'll need an I/9 (5.5mm) crochet hook, some little skeins of yarn in the colors of your choice, a needle and thread, and whatever you'd like to sew the pocket on!

Here's a quick list of abbreviations for you:
Ch - Chain
Sc - Single crochet
Dc - Double crochet
Sl st - Slip stitch

1. Ch 4, join with sl st to form ring. Ch 4 again (counts as first dc, ch 1), (dc, ch 1) 7 times in ring, join with a sl st to 3rd ch of beginning chain 4.
2. Sl st into next ch 1 space, ch 1, sc 3 times in same space, ch 1, skip dc, *sc 3 times in next ch 1 space, ch 1, repeat from * around, join with sl st to first sc.
3. Sl st into next sc, ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc in same stitch, *sc in next ch 1 space, ch 3, sc in next ch 1 space, work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in 2nd sc of 3 sc group, repeat from * around, ending with sc in next ch 1 space, ch 3, sc in next ch 1 space, sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch 3.
4. Sl st into next dc, ch 1, sc in same stitch, *ch 3, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch 3 space, ch 3. sc in center dc of next 3 dc. ch 3, dc in next ch-3 space, ch 3, sc in center dc of next 3 dc, repeat from * around, ending sl st in first sc.
5. Sl st into next space, ch 1, sc in same space, *ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-3 space, (ch 1, sc in next ch-3 space) twice, ch 1, sc in next dc, (ch 1, sc in next ch-3 sp) twice, repeat from * around, ending sl st in first sc. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Sew the pocket to your vest or sweater wherever you want, using matching thread.
