As summer approaches, I find myself moving away from heavier projects like sweaters and blankets (except for this one, of course!) and leaning more toward light and easy projects. Here's a list of ten quick, free projects ranging from crochet to knit to sew to just plain 'ole craftiness!
1.) The Julie Cuff, by Robyn Chachula. Robyn designs such beautiful garments, and her accessories are equally lovely! Give this lacy crochet cuff a try!
2.) Glam Shells by Maiden Brooklyn. This beautiful knitted lace shawl looks like it would be the perfect extra layer for those cool summer evenings. Download the pattern for free over on Craftsy! Be sure to check out Maiden Brooklyn's other shawl patterns too - they are extremely intricate and gorgeous.
3.) Rope and Cotton Fruit Baskets by Craft Passion. I saw some baskets similar to these at Target, and the price was quite a bit more than it would cost to make these! If you're clever with crochet, all you would need to make one would be a coil of thick hemp/rope, a ball of cotton yarn and a crochet hook. I love how they look! I bet they would make a great housewarming/shower gift!
4.) Tribal Pattern Stencil by Sweet Verbena. The tribal print is SO in right now it's ridiculous. I see it everywhere on bags, shirts, skirts, etc. Why not save the money and make your own tribal pattern shirt? Sweet Verbena has an awesome tutorial over at her blog. While you're there, check out her other tutorials! They're super clear and easy to understand.
5.) Big Flower Tutorial by Tanya. I have yet to make this, but it's on my list! I simply adore how this over-sized flower looks like a hat. It looks like it would be a great way to use up excess fabric, too! Give it a shot and wear it confidently!
6.) Lace Trim Earrings by Tanya. I absolutely LOVE these! Lace is extremely popular right now, anywhere and everywhere. These earrings look super easy to make. You don't need to crochet the lace yourself (like I do!) and all it takes is a bit of ribbon, some doilies, a glue gun, and some ear wires!
7.) Braided Fabric Headbands by Heather at Dollar Store Crafts. Look at how cute these are! And easy too - even if you're a beginner. Yet another great way to use up fabric scraps, too. They could be in all sorts of colors for spring and summer!
8.) Roses and Ice Necklace by Melmaria. Yes, I did design this one. I think the pink and white combo is perfect for spring, but this necklace would be equally striking with bright primaries or deep earth tones! Use a variety of differently sized beads for a more bohemian look, or use only one size for a more uniform design.
9.) Bleach Paint DIY by Jill (tutorial posted on A Beautiful Mess). I love this and can't wait to try it! The bleach text is really striking on the black shirt, but I know it would look beautiful on other colors too.
10.) Elise Shawl by Evan Plevinski. This lovely lacy crochet shawl doesn't look like it would take too long to make. Imagine working it up in a soft bamboo thread or a sleek mercerized cotton, or even a light fluffy wool. Such a beautiful piece!
